Board of Directors

The Highland Park Community Foundation was established in 1992 to build and maintain an Endowment Fund, the earnings from which support cultural, social service, educational and environmental programs to benefit the citizens of Highland Park and Highwood. The Foundation’s avowed purpose is to “meet the unmet needs” of the community – needs that are not able to be met through governmental or other sources.

The reason for choosing an Endowment as its primary financial vehicle is that it can serve the community in perpetuity. The Foundation’s promise to its benefactors is:

Money You Give Here … Works Here … For Generations

Our Endowment Fund is invested in low-risk fixed income and equity securities, the income from which is distributed annually to qualifying programs. In 2009, the Foundation extended grants totaling $114,000 to twenty-three social-service, educational and arts organizations (see Grant Recipients .)

HPCF also is able to provide itself as a tax exempt vehicle for the administration and management of the funds of residents and organizations that do not themselves hold IRS 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt status. These are termed “Affiliated Funds” and “Pass Throughs” (see How to Donate).
