Niki L. Martin Scholarship Fund

The Niki L Martin Scholarship was founded in memory of a loving wife, devoted daughter, caring sister, fun and inspiring aunt and so much more.  Niki was a listener, a learner, an educator, a passionate writer, a woman who lived life with real zeal...eager to share her ideas with family and friends. Although Niki's life was cut short, she made the most of the time she had.  She deeply touched the hearts of all those that she knew.

Niki was a reporter for the Miami Herald; director for the student-run legal research department and graduate of Nova Law School; author of two books used by the legal community; environmental and land use attorney dealing with government issues; lobbyist and community activist.

In her personal time Niki was a poet, writer, scuba diver, biker, gardener and mostly a remarkable woman who was loved by so many and friend to more. Her sudden death at age 46 devastated her family. This scholarship was established to honor Niki's memory in perpetuity while empowering other young women to pursue their dreams in journalism, a tribute fitting of Niki's compassionate soul.

As a teenager, Niki was indifferent to high school life but she made a difference in her adult life. The Niki L. Martin Scholarship fund will make a difference in a student's life in the community in which Niki was raised and it will continue Niki's legacy. The Niki L Martin Scholarship will be awarded to a female student from Highland Park High School with the desire to pursue writing. Each year, the faculty of the English Department of HPHS will recommend students deserving of a scholarship to a writers workshop or journalism seminar. The Martin family will then select the final recipient. 100% of money contributed will fund these scholarships.
