The Highland Park Community Foundation

Reunion Fund From Alumni of HPHS

Several members of the HPHS Class of '48 established a fund that would reflect their positive experience at Highland Park High School.  Our Foundation met with several officials at the school and two projects were identified. They are ongoing programs that are out of reach financially, for some well deserving students.

Close-Up on Washington is a national program for high school juniors. The goal is to provide students with an intensive onsite investigation of the US federal government. Students meet with high profile members of government, senators, representatives and cabinet members. Students from all over the country participate. The cost is $1500 per student. This will require an endowment of $40,000 to issue an annual scholarship.

Costa Rica Summer Program is an intensive academic course taught in HPHS summer session. The students study three weeks at HPHS and three weeks traveling in Costa Rica. They study environmental science, Latin American history, physical education and Spanish.

All class reunions and individual graduates should consider participating in this fund. The Foundation should be contacted for major gifts that would name one of these scholarships in honor or memory of someone.
