Rosenblit "Lectures on Counseling" Fund

Highland Park Endowment Fund

The Highland Park Community Foundation has been selected by the Rosenblit family to receive $9,800 to establish a Marcia Rosenblit Memorial Fund to provide funding for "Lectures on Counseling" to be presented to teachers and parents in school district 112.

The first lecture "Kids Can Be Kind and Giving: Bullying and Teasing are not Cool" was presented by Evelyn Klein at Sherwood School on January 29, 2004. Ms. Klein, Ph.D., has had a distinguished career over 30 years as a teacher, school psychologist and adjunct professor, in addition to her private practice.

Paul Zavagno, Principal of Sherwood School said "Marcia treated each child as her own and loved them all. She would gain their confidence, helping them understand themselves and others, and offering support and advice to help them work through it all." Ms. Rosenblit conducted group discussions on divorce, friendship, the gifted child, conflict resolution and death and dying. Hired in 1968 as the first Elementary School Counselor until her death last year, Ms. Rosenblit was a counselor to teachers as well as principals in the district.

Two Rosenblit lectures per school year are planned for parents and teachers to attend at no charge. All expenses are paid for by the Rosenblit Speakers Fund. For more information about future programs, call 847-831-9152.

It is the goal of the Highland Park Community Foundation to continue to solicit donations, to enable this fund to have the resources to attract appropriate speakers for the needs of the community.
